Storm Dennis was in full flow in Grangegodden today as Navan O’Mahony’s made the trip up the M3 for this Feis Cup clash.
With the wind playing havoc, score were hard got and by the 18th minute the sides were level on 0-02 each with Danny McGovern accounting for both of Gaeil Colmcille’s. With the wind in their backs Kells closed out the half the strongest scoring 1-04 to no reply.
A pointed free by Seamus Mattimoe on 22nd minute gave Kells the lead and three minutes later Mattimoe’s younger brother Cormac was on the end of a breaking ball to fire to the back of the net. Seamus added another point along with points from Oisin Reilly and Evan Sheridan left Gaeil Colmcille 1-06 to 0-02 ahead at half-time.
A point by McGovern from an advanced mark in the 33rd minute set Kells on their way early in the second half, two minutes later wing-back Liam Ferguson popped up with a wonderful score from just inside the 45. Navan O’Mahony’s did respond with two points in a row before Kells closed out the game thanks to a point from McGovern and another excellent score from Ferguson with the outside of the boot on the left sideline to give Kells the nine point victory.
