A late Ryan Farnham 1-01 sealed Gaeil Colmcille’s passage to the Feis Cup Final where Donaghmore/Ashbourne await after their 9 point victory over Summerhill on Friday evening.
The Gaeils got the scoreboard ticking early on with two points from Beano Hanlon, one from a free in the second minute and one from play in the fourth minute. Barry Farrelly was called upon from his goalkeeper duties to slot over Gaeil Colmcille’s third point, a free kick with Farrelly’s trusty left boot.
Dunboyne got their first score in the 10th minute but when Ryan Farnham got hauled down inside the large rectangle, referee Kieran Olwell consulted with his umpires and awarded Kells the penalty. Up stepped Hanlon who made no mistake from the spot.
The next four scores were shared with Hanlon adding to his tally and Farnham getting a lovely score from an acute angle. Dunboyne got their fourth and fifth score of the game but a hat-trick of points from Hanlon left Gaeil Colmcille 1-07 to 0-05 ahead at the break.
Kells got the perfect start to the second half thanks to a point from Ajay Tormey inside the opening minute. Hanlon followed that with a free kick in the 33rd minute to see the home side stretch seven clear. That would be The Gaeils last score for 21 minutes as Dunboyne hit a purple patch and tagged on three scores to no reply before a second point from Tormey stopped Dunboyne’s momentum.
Aaron Browne added a lovely score for the Gaeils but two further points from Dunboyne closed the gap to four points with Kells leading 1-11 to 0-10 with time almost up. With Kells absorbing the pressure Farnham struck for a point followed by a superb goal after a wonderful pass by Danny Muldoon, Farnham opted for a volley between the legs of the Dunboyne keeper to clinch the win.
