Gaeil Colmcille thirds got their Premier Cup Division 2 off to a draw away to Dunshaughlin on Tuesday night.
A free from Gary McGovern and a Finn Mullen score had the sides level at 2 points each after 10 minutes when Jamie Jordan pounced for Kells opening goal. This signalled the start of a dominant spell for the visitors. Finn Mullen added his second point, and Andrew Butler pointed from play before the same player goaled from the penalty spot to extend the lead with 15 minutes gone.
Dunshaughlin battled their way back into the game, scoring 1-04 for the remainder of the half. The Gaeils managed just two more points during this period – another McGovern free and a Shane Bennett point that will live long in the memories of those who witnessed it.
Both sides found scores hard to come by for 20 minutes of the second half as a single point for the hosts was cancelled out by one from Oisin O’Reilly. A Dunshaughlin goal levelled matters with 10 minutes remaining. As has happened so often in the past, veteran Gary Arkins stepped forward with two excellent points.
Dunshaughlin cut the deficit to the minimum, but when Arkins pointed again in the last minute a victory looked on the cards. However, the home side refused to give up, and two points in injury time saw them snatch a draw.
