With the faith of both teams already decided it was an opportunity for Summerhill and Gaeil Colmcille to make changes to the respective starting fifteens.
With the aid of a strong breeze in the first half, it was The Hill who made the most of the conditions and took a seven point lead into the half-time break. Summerhill had 1-04 to their name before Kells registered their first score of the game, the goal coming in the 12th minute of the game.
An Ajay Tormey free in the 16th minute got Gaeil Colmcille on the board but that was quickly chalked off with another Summerhill point from play in the 21st minute. Barry Farrelly hit a monster free for the Gaeils on the terrace side near the sideline to double Kells tally. Both sides traded points in the 24th and 25th minute with Seamus Mattimoe pointing for Gaeil Colmcille.
The Hill closed out the half the stronger out scoring Kells two points to another Tormey free.
Mattimoe got his second from play in the opening minute of the second half with an excellent run that cut the Summerhill defence in two. Summerhill quickly responded but the Village side were hit with a blow when full back Padraig Jennings was handed a black card. With the numerical advantage, Kells couldn’t apply pressure to the scoreboard and a single Farrelly free was all they could account for in Jennings absence.
Summerhill struck for two points in a row before 17 year old Liam Barry got his first point at Senior Championship level for Kells to leave it 1-11 to 0-07 to Summerhill. Three in a row by The Hill all but confirmed the result and on the stroke of the full-time whistle Ajay Tormey pointed from distance to leave nine between the teams on Keith Sheerins whistle.
Summerhill advance to the Quarter-Final where they can meet Donaghmore/Ashbourne, Trim or Ratoath while Gaeil Colmcille have the task of either Na Fianna, Dunboyne or Moynalvey in their Relegation Quarter Final.
