Gaeil Colmcille reached the final of the Coolrite Division 2 U19 Championship with a a win over Trim in Grangegodden on Sunday afternoon. Liam Barry top scored for the Gaels with a total of 1-05, the centre forwards goal coming midway through the first half.

Playing with the aid of the strong breeze in the first half, Gaeil Colmcille got the scoring underway with two points inside the opening four minutes thanks to Oisin Walsh and Liam Barry. With conditions tough on Trim playing against the wind they did get their opening point of the game in the 5th minute.

Barry restored the two point advantage for Kells before a string of points for The Gaels saw them push seven points clear thanks to Andrew Gormley, Walsh, John Gormley and a frees from Liam Barry and Walsh. Barry’s half got better in the 17th minute after a good move landed in the hands of the forward and with his weaker right foot fired beyond the Trim keeper to see Kells lead by 10.

Trim started to find their range and three points in a row rallied their team and support but two frees from Barry and a fourth point from Walsh all but killed the game off. There was still time for a second goal for Kells, this time substitute Harry Flanagan finding the back of the net from an acute angle to send Kells to the final where they’ll face Walterstown.
