Gaeil Colmcille will left to rue missed opportunities after their 11 point defeat to Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the PR Coyne & Sons Division 1 clash with the scoreline not showing a true reflection of the game.

With 38 minutes played, the hosts led 0-09 to 0-07 but the turning point came soon after when Donaghmore/Ashbourne got the first goal of the game and took the lead for the first time since the opening score of the game and they never looked back from that point.

After The Moore’s got the opening point from a free, Seamus Mattimoe replied with an excellent two pointer to give The Gaeils the lead. Andrew hot two frees either side of a Donaghmore/Ashbourne point to lead 0-04 to 0-02. The lead could have been more with missed goal chances for Kells midway through the half. Mattimoes runs from midfield was causing problems and he hit two more points to see Kells lead by four.

Gormley saw a point cancelled out and the sides shared two further points before the break with Mattimoe getting his fifth of the half to see Gaeil Colmcille lead 0-08 to 0-05 at the break.

The Moore’s got the opening score of the half but a Gormley free in the 35th minute restored Kells three point lead. That score would be Kells last score until the 61st minute as the wides racked up and missed goal opportunities came and went with Liam Barry and Alex Williams going close.

The Moore’s goal sparked the life in the travelling side and from 0-7 to 0-09 down saw themselves lead 2-12 to 0-09 with 59 minutes played. Ajay Tormey got The Gaeils final score but a two pointer and a free claimed the two points for Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
