Gaeil Colmcille Seconds welcomed Drumbaragh to Grangegodden for the curtain raiser of the Division 4 League sponsored by JMB Sportsfields.
Gaeil Colmcille got the opening point of the game when Brian Hanlon pointed from a free. Drumbaragh were given the opportunity to take the lead one minute later when the Referee awarded them a penalty but Dylan Roche came out beat to Hughie Corcoran’s spot kick as he got down low to keep out the kick. Corcoran made no mistake from the resulting 45 to level things up.
The visitors got the games opening goal soon after and hit a further three points in a row to open up a six point lead. Hanlon was called upon again and he got a Kells back into the game when he found the back of the net. Three minutes later and Hanlon had found the back of the net for the second time after Seamus Hannon laid the ball off to leave the game tied at 2-01 to 1-04.
After Drumbaraghs early dominance, Gaeil Colmcille were ahead on 15 minutes when Gary McGovern pointed and two minutes later Liam Barry doubled The Gaeils lead with a free. From two points down, Drumbaragh found themselves three points up with some excellent shooting with one two pointer thrown in. Seamus Hannon and Liam Devine stopped the rot for Kells as the pointed either side of a Drumbaragh free to leave the home side trailing 2-05 to 1-10 at the break.
The early exchanges of the second half were dominated by The Drums as the hit fiver points without reply includimg a two pointer to stretch seven points clear. Liam Barry added a point for Gaeil Colmcille but a further two points from Drumbaragh left an uphill task for the home side trailing by eight points with a quarter of the game to go.
Both sides exchanged the next four points with Hanlon adding a free and substitute Oisin Walsh getting on the scoresheet. Gaeil Colmcille desperately went in search for goals to claw the game back and Danny Muldoon went close but for a brilliant save from Jake Balfe in teh Drums goal. Kells were handed a lifeline in the dying minutes when Walsh converted a penalty. Walsh was close to a second goal as he rounded Balfe but his effort was cleared off the line. Drumbaragh closed off the scoring in the game with two points for a deserved seven point victory.
