The concession of four St. Peter’s, Dunboyne goals proved too much on Gaeil Colmcille in the PR Coyne A League Division 1 as the South Meath outfit ran out 10 point winners in Grangegodden.
The hosts started brightly and bagged the opening score of the game thanks to a mark from Oisin Walsh in the third minute and although Dunboyne equalled that score two minutes later, Andrew Gormley who was a constant threat throughout the whole game grabbed an excellent point to see The Gaeils lead 0-02 to 0-01 with 6 minutes played.
The turning point in the half, came in the 12th minute when one of Dunboynes hard runs resulted in a penalty being awarded, Donal Lenihan made no mistake from the spot and St. Peter’s took the lead for the first time in the match. Dunboyne never looked back and capitalised on loose defensive play in the Gaeil Colmcille backs and with the turnover they punished Kells by striking a second goal one minute later.
Two frees in a row for Gaeil Colmcille kept the scoreboard ticking but a third goal for Dunboyne came as a sucker blow for Kells who seemed to be getting back into the game. Gormley got his second point just on half time followed by an Oisin Reilly point to leave Gaeil Colmcille trailing 0-06 to 3-04 at the break.
Kells started the brightest in the second half and constant pressure forced St. Peter’s in to mistimed tackling which resulted in Beano Hanlon happy over two frees to leave just five between the sides. The two quick fire scores woke up Dunboyne and an outscored Kells three points to one in a six minute spell.
John Gormley playing at wing forward was not to be outdone by his brother Andrew and he tagged on two excellent points from play but a fourth goal for St. Peter’s killed off any chance of a Kells comeback as table toppers Dunboyne ran out deserving winners.
