In blustery conditions at Grangegodden, Skryne proved the better team to defeat Gaeil Colmcille by five points in the PR Coyne Division 1 A League.

The result may have been different if Gaeil Colmcille put away two gilt edged goal chances inside the opening seven minutes as Ryan Farnham and Adam Muldoon couldn’t find the back of the net. Both attacks were rewarded with a point as Andrew Gormley pointed a free from an advantage being played while Muldoon’s effort blazed over.

Both of Kells scores came at the either end of two Skryne scores to leave the sides level on 0-02 each with seven minutes played. That was as good as it got for Kells who racked up six first half wides as conditions played a factor. The opposite could be said for the visitors as the added five points from all angles to see the Tara men lead 0-07 to 0-02 at the break.

Skryne picked up where they left off in the first half and pointed the opening two scores of the second half to stretch their lead out to seven points and left a mountain to climb for the Kells men. There was a resurgence from Gaeil Colmcille as Gormley hit three frees in a row to claw Skryne’s lead back to four points.

As the Gaeils got a lease of life, it was ripped away within two minutes in the 50th and 51st minute as Skryne added a point and capitalised on a loose ball from Kells, this left the Skrne attacker one on one with Barry Farrelly and he made no mistake finishing to the bottom corner. Trailing by eight points, Kells went in search for goals and found the net in the 56th minute after a high ball from Farnham was broken down by Jack Hogg to Oisin Walsh, Walsh rifled the ball to the top corner of the net to give Kells a glimmer of hope. As Gaeil Colmcille continued to press in search of further goals, the Skryne backs stood strong and help out for the win as Gaeil Colmcille suffer their first defeat of the campaign.
