All at Grangegodden welcomed the return of Adult football for 2022 with Gaeil Colmcille welcoming Curraha for the first round of the Feis Cup.

Gaeil Colmcille struck for the opening three points of the game and it was business as usual with Martin Barrett accounting for two points with Brian Hanlon tagging on the other score although a goal was on the cards for Beano, his effort rose high above the crossbar. Curraha got their first score in the 10th minute but that was soon cancelled out when Hanlon got his second point of the game.

Kells looked certain to extend their when referee Paddy Clarke awarded a penalty, up stepped Hanlon but his spot kick was saved by the keeper low to his left hand side. Ryan Farnham playing at wing forward added a point for Gaeil Colmcille and in the 22nd minute the Kells side did get their goal after good work from Aaron Browne and Oisin Reilly, who laid the ball off for Fionn Ferguson to palm to the back of the net.

Two further points from Gaeil Colmcille, wither side of a Curraha advanced mark left Kells ahead 1-07 to 0-02 at the break. Farnham getting his second score and Aaron Browne hitting a monster to close out the half.

Curraha, now playing with the aid of a stiff breeze started the second half strongly and hit the first two points to close the gap to 6 points. Ryan Farnham steadied the Gaeil Colmcille ship in the 39th minute with an excellent individual point. A late hit on Brian Hanlon resulted in Cormac Mattimoe replacing him and moments later Martin Barrett pointed from a free to restore the eight point lead.

Oisin Reilly pointed in the 42nd minute but Curraha replied with a point from play to register their fifth and final score of the half. Martin Barrett added the final score of the game in the 61st minute to cap off a win to start Luke Dempsey’s campaign as Gaeil Colmcille manager.
