Fr. McManus Park in Skryne was the venue for the second round fixture in this years Feis Cup with Gaeil Colmcille and Moynalvey locking horns on a blustery evening. In the end it was a comprehensive victory for Gaeil Colmcille with Moynalvey fielding a much weaker team than usual.
Gaeil Colmcille made some personal changes from the first round win over Curraha with Seamus Mattimoe and Jordan Muldoon coming into the starting XV and it was business as usual from the Kells forwards with Brian Hanlon and Mattimoe accounting for the first three scores of the game, Hanlon shooting 1-01 and a fisted point from Mattimoe.
Fionn Ferguson followed those three scores up with a monster effort from 45 yards out to extend Kells lead to six points. Moynalvey hit a purple patch of their own and from the 13th to the 18th minute the struck for three unanswered points to cut the lead in half. Gaeil Colmcille pounced for their second goal of the game in the 23rd minute when I high direct ball into the forward line was fisted to the back of the net by Mattimoe. Two further points from Hanlon and another from Mattimoe left Kells in a comfortable position leading 2-06 to 0-03 at half-time.
Gaeil Colmcille opened the scoring in second half with a blistering run from centre back Jordan Muldoon and he finished off the move by tapping over the bar. Second half substitute Danny McGovern made an instant impact when he was found with a pass after a smart run, and a jink for McGovern on to his left side and he struck with the left foot over the bar.
Scores were at a minimum in the second half and a pointed free from Hanlon in the 38th minute was followed by his second goal of the game in the 47th minute after Barry Tormay made and excellent run up from wing back and unselfishly laid the ball off to Beano to palm to the empty net.
That would be the last score of the game for Gaeil Colmcille as management emptied the bench and it would be Moynalvey who’d get the last score of the match in the 55th minute as Gaeil Colmcille closed out the game for their second win in this years Feis Cup. Next up is a meeting with County Champions Wolfe Tones in Gibbstown on Sunday Morning the 20th.
