Gaeil Colmcille travelled to Paddy O’Brien for this seventh round clash in the Feis Cup with Navan O’Mahony’s with the Gaeils hoping a win would keep their aspirations of making the Semi-Final.

Gaeil Colmcille opened the scoring in the second minute thanks to an advanced mark by Seamus Mattimoe. Shortly after Oisin Reilly doubled Gaeil Colmcille’s when he cut inside on his trusted left foot and pointed. In a quiet opening quarter, Gaeil Colmcille had a good chance of a goal but Mattimoe’s effort blazed over the crossbar to leave the Kells men three points to the good as the referee stopped for the first half water break.

O’Mahony’s registered their first score of the game in the 20th minute but that was cancelled out by a Brian Hanlon free in the 21st minute. Two points in quick succession for Gaeil Colmcille stretched their lead to five points as Mattimoe got his third point of the day while wing forward Evan Sheridan got his first point. Both sides added points in first half injury time as a Hanlon free and an O’Mahony’s point from play left five between the sides as Joey Curley blew for half-time.

O’Mahonys’s started the second half a lot quicker than they had the first and got two points from play inside the opening four minutes to close the gap to three points despite Gaeil Colmcille’s first half dominance. Gaeil Colmcille did restore their five point lead by the 34th minute as Hanlon added two points to his tally for the day. Both sides traded scores before the second half water break with Reilly scoring for the Gaeils.

The final quarter produced the games most scores with O’Mahony’s pointing from a free on 52 minutes. Two Gaeil Colmcille points from Hanlon and substitute Danny McGovern kept Kells in pole position going into the final five minutes of the match. An O’Mahony’s point on 57th minute left five points between the sides but two points in the 62nd and 64th minute from Evan Sheridan ensured the win for the Kells men.
