Ladies JBFC: Gaeil Colmcille 7-09 Dunboyne 1-11

Gaeil Colmcille welcomed Dunboyne to Grangegodden for round 3 of Ladies Junior ‘B’ championship.

Dunboyne registered the first 2 scores of the game with a free and a score from play before Aisling Reilly opened Kells scoring. Dunboyne got the next two points.  Kells had to make a tactical change with Emma Connell swapping to centre half back with Sarah Kerins moving to midfield after Connell took an accidental blow to her face.

Kells responded again with another point from Reilly and then a well worked move saw Reilly go through to score in the bottom corner to leave the score Gaeil Colmcille 1-2 to Dunboyne’s 0-04.

Dunboyne responded again with the excellent Aideen Jones scoring the next 3 points in a row. Kells came back into the game again with a goal from wing back Ciara Brady. Gaeils goalkeeper Leah Donlon kept us in the game with an excellent save to her left but two quick points again from Dunboyne left the halftime score saw Gaeil Colmcille trail 2-02 to Dunboyne’s 0-9.

Kells made some changes again, this time Connell moving to fullback, Kerins to centre half back and Emma-Jane McKeown to wing back, Brady moved to midfield with Sam Bennett replacing Rebecca Murray at half forward.

Dunboyne got off the perfect start with an early goal and point to put them 6 clear and Gaeil Colmcille looked in trouble.

The Kells changes started to work with Brady and Emily Sheridan-Fox getting on top in midfield and Rachel Kumar, Sarah McGillick and Gemma Clarke getting the better of the half forwards battle. A goal by McGillick followed by points from Brady and Reilly left the minimum between the teams.

Dunboyne tried to respond again but excellent pressure by Nicole Mitchell, Caoilinn Connell, Georgia Lynch and Kerins kept the Dunboyne attack out. And with McKeown snuffing out Dunboyne’s main treat Aideen Jones, Kells moved up a gear with  3 quick scores with a goal from Orla O’Rorke, a point from Clarke and a second goal from Reilly. Sam Bennett scored an excellent point from play before Dunboyne got there last score from a free.

Kells kicked on again with two more points from Benentt and a second goal from McGillick. Niamh Walsh, Erin Whyatt and Aoife Kelly replaced Mitchell, O’Rorke and Kumar. A point from McGillick was followed by the final score of the game as Ciara Brady lobbed the Dunboyne goalkeeper after winning the kickout.
