Despite being in full control of the game after leading a Navan O’Mahonys 3-04 to no score with just 10 minutes played. The hoops of the Navan girls rallied excellently in the second half and at one point. Roughy it back to 3-04 to 2-04 after Kells failed to score for 29 minutes. This nervousness rallied the Gaeils girls and they closed out the game in style to defeat their Towm neighbours 5-08 to 3-05.
The Gaeils got off to the perfect start when Loren Clarke rattled the net after just two minutes. Two points in a row from Sarah McGillick and Gemma Clarke left Kells 1-02 to no score ahead. Gaeil Colmcille simply could not miss and Emma-Jane McKeon found the back of the net followed by a Caroline O’Rorke point. The opening 10 blitz was finished off when Rachel Kumar struck the back of the net and McGillick added a second point of the day for the Full-Forward.
The home side came bursting out of the traps for the second half with the management team talk working as Navan hit 2-01 with no reply from Kells leaving just a goal between the teams with 34 minutes played. Five minutes later and Kells were settled back into the game thanks to Gemma Clarke finding the back of the net to double The Gaeils lead to six points.
Clarke added another point and just as Kells were getting comfortable O’Mahonys got back in the game thanks to a goal from a 14 yard free. Three points in a row from Kells stretched their lead out to seven thanks to McKeon, McGillick and Clarke. O’Mahonys got a final point for them before Emma-Jane McKeon made sure of the victory with a goal as the game headed into injury time to make it two from two in the LGFA Junior B Championship.
