All at Gaeil Colmcille were saddened to hear of the passing of our former Chairperson Mick Connell on Saturday 11th of February, peacefully at Beaumont Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mick has been heavily involved in Gaeil Colmcille throughout the decades from his early days with the Pitch and Putt to his later days as Chairperson.

Mick took the baton as Chairperson for Gaeil Colmcille at an important time for the club and his calmness and open mind got the club through a difficult period especially through the Covid years. Mick loved every aspect of the club, whether it was the Adult Men’s Football games, Pitch & Putt or the Ladies Football where he attended as many games as possible from Adult to Underage games.

Lockdown was a tough time for Mick, being confined to his house didn’t stop his day to day running of the club and attending the Club Executive’s over Zoom calls were always a fun encounter with Mick’s daughters getting things set up on the laptop to ensure Mick didn’t miss out.

Mick always lent a hand when it came to fundraising and pre Covid Mick portrayed Fr. Jack for our TV Hits fundraiser Fr. Ted. Mick’s kindness was always shown with donations to the club and he never shied away from putting his hand in his pocket to help the club.

To Mick’s family, Derek, Deirdre, Shirley, Sharon and Shane we offer our deepest sympathies at this sad time.

We’ll sign off with Mick’s favourite saying, heard so many times while at games “Isn’t it great” Rest in Peace Mick.
