Gaeil Colmcille 3rds advanced to the final of the Premier Cup for the second year in a row thanks to a comfortable win over Navan O’Mahonys in Grangegodden on Sunday morning.
A hat-trick of goals from Alex Williams was the difference between the two sides in a game played in perfect Autumn conditions. Williams got the scoring underway in the second minute when he found the back of the net. Kells flew into a seven point lead by the 9th minute as Kilian Kelly palmed into the back of the net after points from Kelly and Liam Barry left The Gaeils 2-02 to 0-01 ahead.
O’Mahonys got back into the game with three points in a row but Williams second goal of the game restored Kells seven point lead. Both sides shared the final two scores with Harry Flanagan pointing with his left boot to leave it Gaeil Colmcille 3-03 to 0-05 at the break.
Kelly got his second point of the game and the first of the second half to kick start the half but O’Mahonys cancelled that moments later with a point of their own. Navan followed that with their first goal but as soon as the Hoops gained any momentum they were dealt a sucker punch and Williams got his third goal in the 40th minute.
Kells were well in the ascendancy and two points in a row from Oisin O’Reilly stretched the Gaeils lead. Substitute John Brady got in on the act and he pointed in the 53rd minute. Andrew Butler pointed one minute later but O’Mahonys found the back of the net for the second time in the game.
Returning from his stag in Carrick-On-Shannon, Gary McGovern was a shook figure but that didn’t stop him pointing in 56th minute. Jamie Jordan finished off the scoring for Kells to see them advance to the Final where they’ll face Bective after they defeated Ratoath in the other Semi-Final.
