Gaeil Colmcille Under 15s progressed to the O’Reilly Solicitors Division 2 Final with a convincing win over Dunderry in Grangegodden.
Two early goals from Joe Lennon-Otteno and Andrew Gormley laid the foundations for a solid performance. Gormley followed up his goal with two points to see The Gaeils push eight points clear with 12 minutes played.
Dunderry registered their opening score in the 15th minute, just as the referee blew for the water break. Another Gormley point was cancelled out by Dunderry. Gaeil Colmcille went on to finish the half the strongest. Captain and Full-forward Oisin Walsh had two glorious goal opportunities but failed to convert on either occasion.
The missed chances didn’t affect Walsh as he hit 1-02 in the final five minutes of the first half. Another point from Gormley as well as a second goal from Lennon-Otteno saw Kells take a 4-06 to 0-02 lead to the break.
Dunderry started the half the stronger and were unlucky not to find the back of the net on numerous occasions but for the luck of the posts and Conor Flanagan in the Kells goal to keep them at bay.
Gormley then hit three points in a row which must have felt like a hammer blow to the visitors. Midfielder Callum Mitchell got in on the act with a point and a point from Byron Wearen saw Kells in total control heading into the final quarter.
Dunderry added two points of their own but as Gaeil Colmcille emptied their bench, substitutes Keelan Sheridan and Tadhg Melady both added points for Gaeil Colmcille. The final two scores of the game both came from the boot of Noah Boshell to seal the victory and means Gaeil Colmcille will now face Navan O’Mahony’s in the final. Captain Oisin Walsh, Eoghan Flynn and Tiernan Anderson spoke to The Gaeils Podcast which will be available on next weeks episode.
