Gaeil Colmcille made the trip down the M3 to face Skryne in the second round of the O’Reilly Solicitors Under 15 Division 2 League. Both sides were looking for their first win of the campaign having lost their opening round fixture, Gaeil Colmcille losing to St. Pat’s.
Gaeil Colmcille got off to a great start in the match with the first eight scores for Kells all coming from seven different players. Centre Forward Andrew Gormley opened the scoring for The Gaeils getting the first two scores. Wing back Keelan Sheridan got Kells third point of the day. Points from Byron Wearen, Noah Boshell, John Gormley, Joe Lennon-Otteno and Oisin Walsh kept the scoreboard ticking over for Gaeil Colmcille.
In a tight first half, Skryne relied on goals to keep them in the game and as the half drew to a close a goal on 30 minutes by Andrew Gormley and a point from Callum Mitchell ensured Gaeil Colmcille took a five point advantage to the break leading 1-10 to 2-02. Kells had their keeper Conor Flanagan to thank for keeping Skryne’s goal tally to just two as he pulled off some vital saves.
Skryne tightened their defence and scores were not coming as easy for Gaeil Colmcille but a point in the 31st minute by Rocco Genocky extended Kells lead, this was followed by another point by Andrew Gormley. Gaeil Colmcille would have to wait until the 39th minute for their next score and it came from full-forward Oisin Walsh who found the back of the net.
Again like the first Skryne needed goals to keep them in the game and as the scores got close Kells efforts were helped when Walsh struck for his second goal of the game and Gaeil Colmcille’s third. With one point in it and Skryne looking for a score to level things up Genocky got his second point of the game to ensure Gaeil Colmcille the two points on offer.
